Giorgio Armani and his quest to save Italian fashion

A knight in perfectly cut armour, Giorgio Armani underlined his commitment to the Italian fashion industry yesterday by joining the National Chamber of Italian Fashion.

He was making a veiled reference, of course, to the decision by Valentino and Miu Miu to show in Paris rather than Milan and the latter's recent move to consolidate its presence in Paris as opposed to the Italian fashion capital."While I still believe that all Italian brands should hold their fashion shows in Italy to give due prominence to our country, as an entrepreneur, I understand that certain situations, created over the years, need time to be reorganized," he said.
On a more positive note, he cited the move by Ennio Capasa of Costume National to bring his label back to the Italian fold as "an important first step in this direction." He continud that "it seems only right, and indeed necessary, for me to send a further strong signal of commitment and confidence aimed at boosting an upswing in the vitality of Italian fashion and, at the same time, to show a sign of support for the actions undertaken by the other brand members of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion."
